Technical Rating: 5 Some narrow sections of trail and tricky turns. A great single track ride that winds through oak-bay woodland along the hills bordering San Pablo Bay. The park has adopted a mult-iuse policy for it's single track that makes it very popular with cyclists. crisscrossing fire roads offer much to explore.
0.0Park anywhere along the road near Back Ranch Meadows campground. Start at the entrance to the campground and get on the single track to the right of the kiosk behind the water fountain. At 0.1 miles, the trail Y's, go right up Bay View trail.
0.5Junction 1 with Powerline FR. Go right and in about 25', make a left to return to the single track. At 1.0 mile, the trail meets back up with Powerline FT. Make a hard left (U-turn) to climb the single track. A picnic bench sits about halfway up for a nice rest stop. Just past the bench you'll find views of San Pablo Bay and Jakes Island. At 2.0 miles, Bay Hills trail comes in from right, this is the highest point of your climb (600'). Continue on Bay View trail.
2.4Junction 2 of Back Ranch FR and Bay View. Go left down FR, in about 100 yds., take the single track on your right. The ride now consists of a series of swooping, downhill stretches. Watch for traffic!
3.7Junction 3. Go left on the Ridge Fire Road.
4.0Junction of Ridge FR and Miwok FR. Go left down the FR and in about 50' take Oak Ridge trail (single track) on the right. At 4.3 miles, the trail crosses over Miwok Fire trail. At 4.7 miles, cross the Miwok FT again and switchback down the Oak Ridge trail.
5.2Junction 4 of Oak Ridge and Peacock Gap trail. Go left, in about 0.1 mile, veer left onto Shoreline trail, which is a gently rolling trail that heads all the way back to the start.
Option: Head right for 0.8 mile to visit historic China Camp Village.
7.0Junction of Shoreline trail. Go left on FR in towards the Miwok Meadows group picnic area and catch trail at far end of parking lot. At 7.9 miles, veer left at fork in trail. At 8.2 miles, the trail hits North San Pedro Rd, but continue on the Shoreline trail to the left.
8.4Three-way junction 5. Keep left and stay on the Shoreline trail which circles around the canyon.
10.3Back at the parking area.
